From the forties to the present, one of the main currents in the linguistic research has been the study of the lexical contribution of Portuguese, Galician and Leonese to the vocabulary of the Spanish spoken in the Canary Islands. The works done on this theme show that this influence can be seen in any section of the traditional vo-cabulary, and point out that Portuguese was the way through which these materials arrived to the Canaries. In the paper we consider the evolution of these studies and give a complete bibliography done not only with linguistic investigations, but also with historic and ethnographic works.
