In the present anide, after clarifying some conceptual aspects, we propose a classification of vulgarisms and then analyse the variety of causes behind the appeareance of such stigmatized elements in the Spanish of the Canary Islands. We conclude by suggethig some ways of carrying out a more methodical study of the elements in question.
